Summer Camps 2021

Our week-long camps for rising K-12th graders focus on physical movement, creativity, & collaboration, all while empowering students to build their confidence and skills as actors.

IN-PERSON CAMPS will follow the latest CDC and State safety guidelines including masking, physical distancing, small group sizes, handwashing, and a Bipolar Ionization iWave HVAC system. Each camp will include time indoors and outdoors.

VIRTUAL CAMPS will include lots of movement and time on and off-screen. Participants will receive a packet of materials prior to the start of camp to support their experience.

Cancellation policy: Any cancellations or changes made more than two months prior to the first day of a Portland Stage Education program (after school programming, vacation camps, and summer camps) will be fully refunded. Any cancellation made between two and one month prior to the first day of a program will receive a 50% refund. Portland Stage will not be able to grant refunds made less than one month before the start of a program.

Portland Stage reserves the right to cancel a program two weeks prior to its start if a minimal enrollment is not achieved. In the event that Portland Stage cancels a program families will be contacted two weeks prior and a full refund will be offered. Portland Stage also reserves the right to combine programs, change teachers, or extend the ages of the participants at its discretion.

Camp Hogwarts

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling. You have been selected as a champion for this summer’s Triwizard Tournament. Watch out for dragons, mermaids, and surprise portkeys.

Calvin & Hobbes

Rising Grades 4 – 6 | In-person | 9:00 am – 3:00 pm | $305

Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson. Join Calvin, Hobbes, Susie, and Spaceman Spiff for a week of action-packed adventures. Students will act out characters, play Calvin Ball, and even create some comic strips of their own.

Heroes & Villains

Find your inner hero…AND villain! Participants will act out villains & heroes from books, movies, and television (and invent some characters of their own along the way!).

Acting Intensive

Participants develop their acting technique through scenes, monologues, and improv with a focus on physicality, voice, and character work.

The Land of Stories: A Grimm Warning by Chris Colfer. The Brothers Grimm have a message for you: hurry up and head to Portland Stage for a week of fairy tales, magic, and performance.

Spend a week exploring the language, stories, and characters of Shakespeare’s comedies through monologues, scenes, games, and more.

Playwriting

Rising Grades 6 – 10 | Virtual | 9:00 am – 2:30 pm | $270

Participants will develop their skills as playwrights and performers through a combination of exercises, writing prompts, challenges, and play-readings. Camp will culminate in a final virtual sharing of original scenes, plays, and monologues written & performed by the students themselves.

High School Shakespeare Conservatory

This camp provides more in-depth training for teen actors with Education Director Hannah Cordes. Participants explore Shakespeare’s plays and characters through voice work, movement, stage combat, monologues, and scenes.
