Education Programs

Portland Stage offers vital theater arts education to children ages 4-18 through classes in our Theater For Kids Storefront Space and through Education Programs in Schools designed for students Grades K-12 .

As a leading cultural arts institution in Maine, education is central to the Mission of Portland Stage.  Reaching over 14,000 students each year across the State of Maine, Portland Stage is committed to the idea that children learn academically and experientially through the art of theater. All classes and workshops, with Theater for Kids and Education Programs in Schools, are taught by professionally trained Teaching Artists and focus on literacy, cultural awareness, and creative thinking.  Children and students are encouraged to use their imaginations, examine the world through different lenses, and  develop a deeper understanding, not only of themselves, but of the world around them.
