Every winter season, Portland Stage produces a Holiday Show. In 2017, we are proud to present It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play adapted by Joe Landry.
Through our Holiday Show program, students attend a matinee of a full-scale, age-appropriate production that celebrates classic literature or well-known stories. Portland Stage has committed to including a cast of young actors in these productions, allowing students to see their peers on stage working alongside professional actors. We find that seeing young actors in a Mainstage production inspires a deeper connection to the material.
We also offer optional classroom workshops with professional theater artists before and/or after the show. These workshops enhance student ownership and understanding of the language, story, and characters by using theater techniques to activate their voices, bodies, and imaginations in relationship to the material. The students are able to bring the story to life in their classroom using their own ideas and impressions as the framework for creation and exploration.
Cost: $12 per person. One comp is offered for every twenty tickets sold.
Student Matinee Reservations are handled by the Education Department, not the Portland Stage Box Office.
