Each year Portland Stage produces a Holiday Show. In 2017 it will be It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play adapted by Joe Landry.
Holiday productions are the cornerstone of our education program for children in grades 3-12. Students attend a matinee of an age appropriate full scale holiday production adapted from classic literature, and can participate in optional classroom workshops before and/or after the show with professional theater artists. By attending a professional production, students learn how understanding complex sentence and story structure and get an introduction to the classic “hero’s journey.” Seeing young actors in a Mainstage production inspires a connection to the material that they have seen performed. This personal connection is enhanced through discussions and classroom workshops where student have the opportunity to work as a team, building literacy by retelling the story using their bodies, voices and imaginations to bring a classic story to life.
Student Matinee Reservations are handled by the Education Department, not the Portland Stage Box Office. To make a reservation for one of our 10:00 am matinees, contact the Education Department at 207.774.1043 x101 or e-mail.
All student matinee performances are at 10 AM.
