Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Is housing provided?
A: Yes. Interns are housed in furnished, 3-bedroom apartments 4 blocks from the theater and across the street from Deering Oaks Park, a large municipal green space. Each intern has his/her own bedroom and shares kitchen, bathroom, and living space.
Q: What is the weekly stipend and can I live on it?
A: The vast majority of interns find it possible to live on the $90/week stipend.
Q: Do you offer any summer internships?
A: No. All internships at Portland Stage are full-season, August through May positions.
Q: How many interns do you hire?
A: We hire ten or eleven (10-11) interns per season.
Q: How large is your pool of applicants?
A: Typically between 100 and 120 per season.
Q: Do you accept International applicants?
A: Portland Stage accepts internship applications from other countries, provided that international applicants understand that they are solely responsible for securing their own work visa and travel arrangements should they be hired.
Q: Can I have a part-time job during my internship?
A: The program should be regarded as a full-time commitment of at least 40 hours per week. Additional employment to supplement income (an outside job) is not usually possible or practical and is strongly discouraged.
Q: When are final hiring decisions made?
A: The decisions are made in late April or May.
