Production interns may also assist designers on 1-2 mainstage productions, depending on ability, and may rotate into other departments to expand their knowledge in all areas of technical theater.

STAGE MANAGEMENT INTERNSHIP:

Stage Management interns work directly with Equity stage managers as an integral part of the stage management team. Interns assist with all aspects of rehearsal and serve as deck supervisors from the tech process through the run of the shows.

DIRECTING/DRAMATURGY INTERNSHIP:

Directing/Dramaturgy interns assist directors during rehearsals of mainstage productions and work with the artistic staff on daily administrative activities in the Education and Literary departments. Interns assist with Portland Stage’s annual play festivals, From Away and Little Festival of the Unexpected. Dramaturgical duties include researching, writing, editing, and laying-out resource guides, reading and evaluating scripts, and assisting with post-play discussions. All directing/dramaturgy interns serve on run crew for selected shows during the season.

Literary/Education interns assist the literary staff with reading and evaluating scripts and playwright correspondence. Interns also take part in planning From Away and Little Festival of the Unexpected, Portland Stage’s annual play festivals. In the Education department, interns are responsible for researching, writing, editing, and laying-out resource guides, and play an integral role in the ongoing administration of education programs, including Portland Stage's Theater for Kids. Literary/Education interns serve on run crew for selected shows during the season.
